Dear Colleagues,

On August 5th, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Chair Search Committee received its charge to identify well-qualified candidates for the next Chairperson of the Department of Ob/Gyn by Dean Valerie Parisi. We are writing to you as the Committee co-chairs to update you on our progress and to apprise you of our next steps and anticipated timeline.

The Search Committee is comprised of elected faculty members of the Department, individuals selected by the Dean and leaders representing our major partners, the Detroit Medical Center, Karmanos Cancer Center and the Perinatology Research Branch. The Search Committee Roster is enclosed for your review.

We began the search process by seeking input from the Ob/Gyn faculty, trainees and the Search Committee on the desired professional and personal characteristics for the next Chair of the Department. The product was a consensus document outlining the specifications for the position (see attached).

The Committee will cast a wide net, reaching out nationally to individuals eminently qualified for the position at national meetings and soliciting nominations by members of ACOG and APGO, ELAM, AAMC Deans and Chairs, as well as connections with colleagues at outside institutions. Lastly, advertisements will be placed in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

As important members of WSU's family, we turn to you for nominations of well-qualified individuals for this position. If you know of such candidates, please forward the individual's name, institution and contact information to the attention of Caryn Volpe.

As part of its charge, the Search Committee was asked to bring candidates through by the end of November. Upon completion of the candidate interviews, the Committee will deliver a "short list" of 3 candidates to Dean Parisi for her consideration. This will conclude the charge of the Search Committee and the Dean will make the final selection.

Because the Committee's foremost charge is to deliver a slate of outstanding candidates with impeccable professional credentials and personal integrity, it is impossible to predict our timeline for completion. However, it is our hope that the Search Committee will conclude this process by this spring.

We will write to you again when there is progress to report.

Sincerely yours,

Mark Juzych, M.D. & Bonita Stanton, M.D.
